Typically I struggle with announcing our donations or putting them on our website. I believe in the idea of "do good deeds but, don't get caught." However, I also believe that we have a responsibility to give great causes a platform and help raise awareness. So, today I am writting a blog about two people that we feel very strongly deserve to be supported. Gracie Love in a Bowl was founded by our friends in Cape Town South Africa. They live on a small holding in Hout Bay, a place where over 15,000 people live in make shift shacks. They were often approached by their neighbors for left overs and felt that it just wasn't enough. So they planted a garden with the sole purpose of feeding the poor. Five years later that garden became an organic farm that produced 60,000 meals a year.
Often when you donate to a cause you never see the outcome. So, we were unbelievably moved when Gordon, one of Gracie's founder, sent us pictures of the crop circles that were built with our donations.
They growing enough food in these three circles to create an additional 60,000 meals a year. They are harvesting about 300 lb of spinach a day! There are also beets, onions, celery, carrots, kale, cauliflower, broccoli and more. All of this is done organically. Our donations have also created 3 new jobs for local people.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out wonderful charity, please do visit their page Gracie Love in a Bowl. We are very grateful to part of this inspiring group of people!
